When we visited Japan we stayed on Miyajima, at Momiji so Ryokan, for a couple of nights. It's a great traditional Inn with tatami mats and Futon to sleep on. They cook some amazing noodles too!
While we were visiting the Itsukushima Shrine there was a play on. It wasnt the most exciting of plays, but Japanese theatre relies mainly on dialogue, so if you don't speak Japanese its just guys in costume talking at each other.
The shrine was packed out an there were camera's filming so it still seems quote popular, even if it's just a tourist trap.
