A rock in the tide
This street was lined with overpriced souvenirs as it leads people up to Kiyomizu-dera.
This monk stood still for minutes as we walked past this throng of tourists. The look of disdain on his face, as he watched people queue for crappy trinkets, was sobering.
It made me think that Japans religion has become a commercialised tourist trap rather than a spiritual retreat. But if the commercialisation of their temples means they can maintain this bit of history and I get to see it, it cant be that bad. Lighten up Monk :p
