Christmas 2011

The Pohutukawa trees always put on their red decorations for Christmas in New Zealand.
At Waiake beach in Torbay they surround the shore and cling to the cliffs.

A typical Kiwi summer; Pohutukawas, sandy beaches and sun.

Playing Chicken

A chicken at the Auckland Zoo... although it looks like an abandoned building, it really is at the Zoo. There were a bunch of lil chicks too

Video game portraits

After reading this article I was inspired to go and look at old screen shots of when we used to play World of Warcraft a lot.

I added some gaussian blur to the back ground to give it the shots a depth of field effect.

Murray's Bay Sunset

While the sun sets over Auckland, Rangitoto Island looms in the background with a group of young men jumping off the wharf into the salty water.

This is a composite of a few images time-lapsed to the the movement around the rocks.

Westfield put on a great fireworks show on the 25th of November.

They were lighting their Xmas Tree and I think there was some charity involved /shrugs. I was too busy to take any notice of the details because of all the awesome explosions! Then we all got excited when the pontoon floating on the lake caught fire. Unfortunately it didn't explode.

Here are a couple of shots showing the epicness of the fireworks :)

Monkey Kiss

In Nagano at the Monkey Park (Jigokudani Yaen-Koen)

This damp monkey could be blowing a kiss… He’s most likely not and if you went ‘awwww’ at him he would be likely to scratch out your eyes. I got too close to one and he screeched and swiped at me.

The lil baby ones were cute. They all hang out around a hot pool that they bath in after frolicking in the snow and being pestered by tourists.

Daisy Daisy

On this weeks photo walk Wednesday my wedding photographer friend brought along his new 100mm Macro lense.

It is a NICE lense!!

We drove down to the Canon building next to the Motorway with a nice view of the city skyline... but I got down on my hands and knees for something a little closer:

The old St James

We were wandering around town last Saturday, Tim and I were.
This is the back entrance to the St James Theatre. It reminds me of the alley where Batman was born :)

Fabric Flowers

Today I went on a photo walk with a mate. He wanted some shots of a sculpture at the front on the Auckland Art Gallery.

This chandelier was hanging in the lobby. The flowers are inflatable fabric and expand and close automatically.

Here is the bottom level of the Chandelier

Under the Hedge

This mushroom once lived beneath the hedges outside the mighty walls of the Sovereign building at Smales Farm on Auckland North Shore.

I like to think it is now part of some video game with an Italian plumber.

Shot with my 50mm 1:8 on my Canon 1000D
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/60 sec
Aperture: 2.8

Some black and white treatment and Sakura

I decided to play around with black and white today. These photos of a chain and lock on some boats were just asking for it:

With Spring here I revisited this picture from 2009 of Sakura in Tokyo. I cant wait to go back next year so Ill be practicing on the cherry blossoms here at home :)

PWW (Photo Walk Wednesday) goes to the beach... again

We left our jackets in the car today and found our way down to a small cove at Takapuna off Hurstmere Road.

This reminds me of a Koosh ball I had once:

That water looks so good... not quite warm enough yet though:

boats at rest:

...and then we ventured, with bellies full of processed food, into the depths of a murky Smiths Bush.

Here lies Tree Beard?

The forgotten fence

A vine that is a noxious weed grew up over the fence at the bottom of our garden. For probably 30 years it has been slowly torn apart and eaten by the plant.

We threatened the council with legal action to get them to do something about it and they removed the weed but now our fence is left decimated and decrepit.

Photo walk Wednesday three

Here are 3 shots from last weeks Wednesday outing to Milford beach on Aucklands North Shore.
We didnt go very far just ate lunch and fed the birds then wandered down to the waters edge.

Within that space I managed to get a few decent shots.

Photo walk Wednesday two

Here is a few shots from yesterdays photowalk.
This time we didn't venture far because of a cold wind. We just stuck around the front of the Sovereign building in Smales Farm.
